This is were I was born, grew up and studied :
My favorite instrument:
Diploma (March 1978 - Dec. 1979) and Ph.D. (Jan. 1980 - Oct.1982) at Hamburg
University
and
DESY
(Tasso Collaboration)
with work on electroweak-interference, QED tests, Bhabha, Muonpair
Analysis and Luminosity determination, hadronic
vacuum-polarization.
Coming to
in 1982 as fellow (Nov.1982 - Sep.1985, NA31 CP Violation e'/e,
likesign dimuon Analysis for CDHS).
At CERN from Siegen University
(NA31
and ALEPH on
electroweak,
luminosity).
CERN staff, 1990-1998 in Operations
group as Engineer in Charge (EIC) and SPS-LEP machine coordinator
(1995-1998),
with work on
beam-beam,
beam tails, luminosity / background optimization.
Currently senior CERN staff in the
Accelerators
and Beam Physics Group ABP
of the CERN Accelerators
and Beams AB Departement
with activities on LHC, SPS, transfer lines and future Accelerators
and R&D (EuroTeV HTGEN, CLIC)
Now mostly focusing on LHC commissioning
Other scientific activities:

member
Since 2009 chairman of the LBS LHC
Background Study Group which dealing with the experimental
conditions including luminosity optimisation and normalisation
